Running for Jesus: Introduction

Mallery Schaffer Ministries: Transform Fitness 28-March-2012

Heavenly Prize "run the race for Christ" Philippians 3:14 (NKJ) “I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Jesus Christ.”

The message: 12-14

I'm not saying that I have this all together, that I have it made. But I am well on my way, reaching out for Christ, who has so

wondrously reached out for me. Friends, don't get me wrong: By no means do I count myself an expert in all of this, but I've got my eye on the goal, where GOD is beckoning (calling) us onward—to Jesus. I'm off and running, and I'm not turning back.

Weekly Series: “Run for Jesus” WHY- B/C he RUNS millions of miles for us each day-- he reached out to us first!

Here's a story about me when I first started running a year ago-- No clue what I was doing--- Same as when I accepted the Lord and decided to give my life and RUN for Jesus had no clue what the next step was.

Here's my advice:

1. Warm up and cool down with people who win the race

I began to surround myself with people who loved to run completive races and took notes on what they did. I asked as many

questions as I possibly could without being a pest or annoying. Let me ask you this? Can you do this with running the race you run for Christ? Don’t just warm up and cool down with Godly people, surround yourself with them, ask questions, it says keep your eye on the goal- he’s calling us to run his race. Amen.

2. Train correctly

If we never ran in our lives and went out and rushed as hard as we could for 15 miles... WHAT MIGHT HAPPEN? Just think about this, Never run in your life- you go out full force. What happens? Run out of breath, legs hurt, give up or start walking, hack up a lung, breathing starts to get unbearable --

Here's a story about me last year, at the same race I am doing this weekend- My first 1/2 marathon, listen I had no clue as to what I was doing BUT I knew I wanted to be fast and do 1hr. 50min time, I finished in the time 1:50 but, I was severely injured!  I was strong BUT trained incorrectly and wanted to run in my flesh-- Yes we at times do this BUT it’s not smart.

I now am training for the Marathon in May, training slower, try to take notes on what I am doing, take easy running days etc. You know what I am going to say RIGHT--- This is the same with your faith, think about the scripture above “By no means do I count myself an expert in all of this, but I’ve got my eye on the Goal, where GOD is calling me. My time to studying Gods word is while I’m running and listening to Keith Moore or audios of the bible. Just like running with your faith you train your faith.

3 Practice

I’m off and running, and I’m not turning back- Listen this takes time. Be patient, there were many times were I said to my wonderful running friends “I GIVE UP” This is what they would say to me. No, Mallery you are amazing and you can run, you were made for this. I know you will keep getting better and better with practice and correct training. Just like this don’t give up on Jesus, instead run for him and practice his principals each day.

Story about your knee in pain- My knee was killing me first year of running (4 months in) and I started crying in pain and wanted to still run on it, I remember my dear running friend, stopped and walked with me.

I realized this is just like practice running you NEED to do the same with your faith. I encourage people while I am running in a race, I’ll say RUN FOR JESUS and they will start going shoot off or they will give me a BIG Smile, love smiles! You know it’s not about the actual race, it’s about the people I can meet, the satisfaction of finishing and having time to myself to study Gods word.

When I prepare this sermon I am practicing what God has called me to do. I am using FITNESS as a platform to share the Gospel.

Amen!

If you do these 3 things you will:

Win the race

Eternally & Physically - My visual today: The metal, this means nothing compared to what the eternal Heavenly prize is! Amen--- 1 Corinthians 9:24-25

You've all been to the stadium and seen the athletes race. Everyone runs; one wins. Run to win. All good athletes train hard. They do it for a gold medal that tarnishes and fades. You're after one that's gold eternally.

Always Give the Glory to God

Philippians 3:15 15-16 So let's keep focused on that goal, those of us who want everything God has for us. If any of you have

something else in mind, something less than total commitment, God will clear your blurred vision—you'll see it yet! Now that we're on the right track, let's stay on it. When I finished my last race and I will do this at the Marathon as well, I get down on one knee (Tebow) and thank God. Amen!

I RUN FOR JESUS!
